How to Prepare Kids for Family Photos
If the thought of getting your children ready for family photos makes you nervous, you are not alone. Kids can be energetic, shy, silly, or slow to warm up—and none of that means your session cannot be successful.
Keep the explanation simple
Tell children you are going on a little family adventure and someone will take pictures while you spend time together. Avoid promising rewards for smiling or making the session feel like a test they must pass.
Protect their routine
When possible, choose a time that works with naps, meals, and your child’s usual energy. Feed everyone beforehand and bring water, a small snack, wipes, and any comfort item that helps your child feel secure.
Let children be children
Some of the most meaningful photographs happen between posed moments: a spontaneous hug, a funny face, a hand held tightly, or siblings making each other laugh. Your children do not have to behave perfectly or smile on command.
Trust the process
A relaxed photographer can offer gentle direction while giving kids space to adjust. We can take a short pause, change activities, or let a child explore safely within the planned setting.
At CB Photography, the approach is playful and flexible. The goal is to capture your family’s real connection—not to force every moment into a pose.
